My server has a button on the front that you can push to power cycle the 
machine even if the OS is down.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  :-)

Reminds me of the time I walked into an office with some of my co-workers 
and there  was  a woman there plugging away at an electric typewriter.  I 
said, "Wow, look at this! It's like a keyboard and printer all in one. 
Where'd you get that?"
