Firebug an add-in for Firefox is one of the greatest tools you could have 
for debugging Javascript (and many other things).

http://www.getfirebug.com  or mozilla.com, pick add-ins.. etc..

I don't know how anyone wrote decent javascript before it. (I know, they 
did.. but you get the point).
