If you're picking up digital stations with an ATSC tuner you should be
seeing 720p or 1080i downscaled to 720p when watching most prime time
content. I bet the biggest reason why you are getting drops is
multipathing. You're probably close enough to get really good signals
if you have a high gain antenna. You might get some useful information

A really good source of information is http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ .
And antennaweb.org can tell you exactly where to point your antenna
for the stations you want.
