[ale] IMAP problems under RHEL4.5 w/ Thunderbird

Hey all,

I am noticing some strange behaviour where user's IMAP files
appear to be getting trashed in a couple of different ways.
When this happens Thunderbird reports that an Internal Error
has occurred. I have seen similar problems with a user's Trash file
where clicking on the folder in Thunderbird triggers the same error.

Looking at /var/log/dovecoterr.log shows:
imap($user): Jul 18 09:08:20 Error: File isn't in mbox format:
/var/mail/$user
imap($user): Jul 18 09:08:20 Error: File isn't in mbox format:
/var/mail/$user
imap($user): Jul 18 09:10:01 Error: Error syncing mbox file
/var/mail/$user: LF not found where expected
imap($user): Jul 18 09:10:01 Error: Error indexing mbox file
/var/mail/$user: LF not found where expected

In some cases I have been able to delete or edit problems in the first few
lines of the to correct problems such as incomplete email addresses/headers.
In other cases the file appears to be trashed. Running /usr/bin/file
reports the
file is just "data" instead of "extended-ASCII mail text" in some of the
cases.

Has anyone else run into this one?

Best regards,

J. D.
