Sitting down at any machine, regardless of the operating system, it is
easy to at the very least destroy the data.  dd can do amazing things.

Of course, to do anything else, you'd have to have a system on a disk
that can read the FS on the system... you can't use FreeBSD, for
example, to get past filesystem permissions on a Linux system using
ReiserFS, or at least, not the last time I checked.  Though, if someone
wrote a FUSE driver for it, it would become trivial.
