[ale] Speaking of AT&T DSL

I recently was helping a friend with a problem with her computer. It
seems that when AT&T took over her Bellsouth account she got a new
security package called AT&T Internet Security. She couldn't get the
firewall to work, so I told her I'd look at it.

The first AT&T person (very difficult to understand) I spoke to tried
all kinds of things to get it to work. Finally we uninstalled it and
then tried to download it to reinstall it. I was then informed that I
would not be able to download it unless I was on an AT&T DSL line.

I took the computer over to my mother-in-laws house where she has AT&T
dsl, started my second conversation with another (difficult to
understand) AT&T person. Still could not get it to work. He suggested
reinstalling the operating system. Right.

I ended up reinstalling the operating system for other reasons, so
contacted AT&T yet again. This time I asked the person where she was
located (because she was very easy to understand). She was in Florida.
I shared with her the problems I had with the AT&T Internet Security
application as well as the time I'd spent trying to get it to work. She
said: "Can I be frank with you?" I said "Please do." The bottom line
is, she told me they were having all kinds of problems with this
application and recommended that I remove and install something like AVG
Internet Security. I told her I would kiss her if I could.

Beware AT&T Internet Security...
