[ale] Losing stability

And we have Lift-Off.

Marred by a slight hard-drive cabling mix-up which confused grub(8) and
hence me 'til I remembered how I'd organized my three drives.

But after that everything looks ok good right up through XFree86 and xmms. I
am pleased.
