Crucial Action Alert:
Georgia Assembly moving to pass phony Election reform bill!

To Supporters of Voter Verified Paper Ballots
and Transparent Public Election Systems:

Please consider attending or testifying in favor of the HB790
amendment at the House Government Affairs Committee Mtng.:
  TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 3:00pm,
  Room 406 of the Legislative Office Building
  (immediately South of the State Capital building)

A bill involving a partial, inconclusive testing of new Diebold voting
systems, SB500, is being actively and, in our view, fraudulently
fronted by the Diebold promoters in our State Government as a
paper ballot measure. 

This bill has passed through Senate committee and passed on
the Senate floor. It is now scheduled to receive a hearing in the
House Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday, March 21st,
at 3:00 pm

As it is currently written, SB500 only provides for a limited trial
balloon test of Diebold ballot printing systems in three precincts.
Diebold claims that addopting the systems would require that all
their existing systems be scrapped at a price of (at least) $70 million. 
The bill does nothing to explore cost effective solutions or require
restoration of ballot evidence and verifiable elections to Georgia.
The bill's author, now a candidate for Secretary of State, Sen. Bill
Stephens,  worked with the current Secretary of State to strip out all
the bill's original provisions requiring State level implementation of
Voter Verified Paper Ballots by 2007.

We desperately need to lobby the Government  Affairs committee
to restore Voter Verified Paper Ballot implementation requirements
to SB500 and to strengthen the bill's audit requirements and counting 
procedures. Our best opportunity to do this by asking that HB790 be
amended in its entirety to the SB500 legislation.

The Tuesday, March 21st, 3:00pm meeting will be our last public
opportunity to demand legitimate VVPB Election Reform be passed
in this Assembly session!  Everyone citizen's presence is both helpful
and critical!


And if you cannot attend this meeting, please consider IMMEDIATELY
calling or faxing  the members of the House Government Affairs committee
and Sen. Bill Stephens and ask that the language of HB790 be amended
to SB500 in it's entirety!  (contact information below)
