[ale] switch recommendations

yep, many of the Cisco Catalyst switches use GBICS and even SFPs, if  
you're so
inclined. The Catalyst 3508 is an 8 GBIC switch, meaning it only  
accepts GBICs and
doesn't have normal RJ-45 ports. I guess that'd be handy if you had  
to switch between
many different types of phyical media.
