I am not familiar with the many of the tools that you have mentioned
(Kumula, Knowledge Tree, and Kdissert), but I can suggest that if you
are using the KDE environment, Kontact is quite awesome for time
tracking, address book functionality, mail, news, calendaring, and more
as a general PIM tool.  As for document and image storing, the best
things I can think of are just using the file system to do that job,
since you are talking about a single user setup.  If you need to retain
file history information or something like that, what you can do is just
keep something like a subversion repository and set up cron jobs to
regularly commit changes by date/time or something, which would provide
you at the very least the ability to keep track of the history of your
document and image repositories at any point in time.  There would be a
little bit of setup there, but it isn't all that hard to do.
