I've made that mistake myself a few times since the distributions made
the switch.  Though, I have found that I tend to like xorgcfg +
handtweaking just about better then anything else I've done thus far.
It works in most cases, unless you're working with a low-end LCD display
that can't do what your card can be pushed to.  :-P

Speaking of... slightly off topic and all, but does anyone have an
AL1715 by Acer and know how to turn off the "Mode Not Supported"
floating graphic at 1600x1200?  The display works at that resolution,
and when I'm working with bigger graphics, it'd be nice to push it
there, even though it's not optimal for reading text (it does suffer a
tiny bit of blur), but even 8 pt MS Sans is readable on Windows, and
everything looks good under any other system, too).
