Hmm.  I'm using gentoo, and already have a link from /dev/sndstat to
/proc/asound/oss/sndstat.  Udev doesn't appear to know about this link
though, so my guess is that gentoo is creating it as part of the boot
process.

You might be able to write a udev rule using a SYSFS key.  Have a look
at this udev primer: http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html

That's probably the easiest way.  It *seems* to be what gentoo is doing,
but I could be wrong about that.
