[ale] OT: Install and configuring php

Are you installing from source or via RPM?  If via RPM, you can yum to 
make the process almost painless.  Just do (I believe) a yum search php 
and note the packages that you need.  Then, do a yum install 
<packagename> for the packages that you need.  yum will do a very good 
job of handling the dependencies for the packages.
