I've heard that Component is best if you have a analog system like a CRT.

If you have a plasma/lcd, then the best choice is HDMI.

The reason being that CRTs really are analog at heart, so if you use a
digital interface like HDMI your causing the monitor to do an extra
D-to-A conversion.

Thinking about picture quality, you also need to evaluate where to
process your analog signals (if you have any).  I've been using
Comcast with HD for a couple years.

Comcast sends our signals in 3 formats that I'm aware of:
HD, Digital, Analog.

With HD and Digital my choice was to use the Comcast provided DVR to
decode the signal.  It does a good job and my TV is not directly
compatible with the Comcast digital channels.

With Analog I can tee off the cable and feed it straight into the TV
as well as the DVR.  Then I can do a input swap and easily compare
Analog channels decoded by the DVR and the same channels decoded by my
TV.

It is no contest.  The TV does a WAY better job.  So if I was watching
a analog channel I would tune it with the TV.  ie. TBS, Turner South,
etc. used to be Analog coming out of Comcast.

The good news is I think Comcast is currently sending everything out
in digital format, but I'm not sure.  Certainly most of the channels I
watch are either HD or D.
