Solaris Systems Administrator Job Description

Pathfire, Inc. is the leading provider of digital media distribution and
management solutions to the television, media and entertainment
industries.  We have a SOLARIS SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR opportunity
available.  This position reports to the Manager, Network Services and
is the lead Unix/Linux and storage System Administrator for the company,
acts as a back up for DBA and provides security oversight.  Primary
function is responsible for remote support and maintenance of Unix and
Linux based systems located both at Pathfire and various customers
facilities nationwide.  Incumbent is responsible for management of
storage systems at Pathfire and customers facilities.

Installs, configures and maintains Solaris and Linux based systems.
Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware, as well
as, Solaris and Linux operation systems and application software.
Required to quickly detect, diagnose and correct related problems on
servers in production environments, both at hardware and software
levels.  Responsible for support and maintenance of central storage
systems primarily utilizing Network Appliance hardware providing NFS and
CIFS shared storage.

Incumbent will act as a backup to the Database Administrator. Incumbent
should be familiar with basic concepts, practices, and procedures as
they relate to databases, preferably Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server and
MySQL; assists with resolving database performance issues, and database
capacity issues.  Assists with storage management, monitoring the
operational database environments, and test Disaster Recover policy.

Performs security audits and risk assessment.  Tracks security alerts,
performs vulnerability assessments and initiates updates, changes or
other responsive measures as necessary.  Administers security
infrastructure and monitoring systems.  Responds to security alerts and
provides a fast reaction to mitigate risks and protect production
environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
B.S. Degree or equivalent work related experience
5 yrs. Solaris/Linux administration
Good working knowledge of Sybase or other major RDBMS
Must have recent administration & troubleshooting experience with
Network Application Filers
Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices & procedures as they
relate to Sun Solaris & RedHat Linux
Knowledge of Veritas foundation suite & backup
