I recall that it used to be tricky to get k3b to burn ISOs. You needed to
find the right option, or something. I finally figured it out, but now with
the latest KDE I just click on an ISO and k3b starts in the right mode. Or,
from k3b I just click on the iso.

I never had any confusion with burning a data CD, though. You just do
File->New data CD, or something like that.
