My guess is that it was something about some sort of library
dependencies or something.  I upgraded it and about half the other
packages on the system and the problem went away.  *shrugs*

Then again, I flubbered something up:  I couldn't get it 'emerge -e
--world' to work and, well, oops.

*shrugs*

All source distros aren't for me, I suppose.  Back to a real
distribution -- Slackware it is!
