Debian install trouble with HP Pavillion laptop (was Re: [ale] Distroquestion...)

The netboot works, and the installation completes.

It's on firstboot that it panics, and it panics before I can get control of
it.  (i.e. no single-user).

The laptop only has a Broadcom wireless adapter in it which imples network
won't function first time up, but I'm a registered Linuxant customer, so
after booting (if I could boot) I would install the driver, but I can't get
that far.

The few special items out there don't seem to be of any consequence (at
least, 4 other distros don't care)

Oddly, Knoppix boots and runs... >shrug<.

No matter, I am up and cruising at this point.
