This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but the KDE project recently 
made a call to involve new developers on bug fixes. If you were involved in 
that, you would have the cred to seek out experienced KDE developers and 
learn what they know about QT. You would also be contributing to one of the 
most successful desktops in the Linux world. There is a bulletin here:

You can also lurk in the kde-devel mailing list, where lots of QT issues get 
tossed around.
