[ale] cameras, sbc's and linux oh my!

hey im having some difficulty finding some small micro based pcs something
small and cool running suitable for a hd use for storage and able to
string many cameras together what i was thinking of doing is using some
old cat5 and some preferably cheep cameras (with or without case) mounting
them in the attic or in the walls and running the vid feed and power over
the cat5 back to a small computer. difficulty is i havent seen any made
for this and personally am unsure how to go about manually wiring them or
something.
