[ale] Debian 2.6.8/Plextor dvd help please

I'm with you.
As I mentioned before, my friend had the exact same problem with the 
exact same device.
If I am not mistaken, kernel 2.6.8 versions up to -10 have this "illness".

A quick live cd boot solved the mystery.

What is the output of "uname -a" ?
