[ale] underscored server names

According to http://ietf.org/rfc/rfc0882, the only allowed characters in a domain name are letters, numbers, and hyphens. Thus, an underscore might cause problems because a program could have defined the use of an underscore in a domain name to mean something special.

Subject: [ale] underscored server names

would someone mind telling me why an "_" in a server name would cause trouble? i've not noticed it before, but with some email programs (mozilla thunderbird) it is raising sand about the server name (email_server). it doesn't do this with a "-" and i was wondering if i was breaking some rule/law/karma.

as it stands there are several servers i am playing with: data_server, email_server, app_server, ogg_server and notice no current problems.

i am allowed to name as i see fit, am i not?

thanks,
preston
