I can't speak to RH 6.2, but with Mandrake 9.1 I had similar problems.  It 
turns out I did not have the exact same source as I had kernel.  I figured a 
patchlevel or two on the kernel wouldn't matter, but it did.  When I 
installed the mandrake source for the exact kernel I was running, it worked 
immediately.
