SGI gave admin courses on IRIX which ranged from Basic Sysadmin to
Networking to Advanced. All prices were higher than these at $2500
minimum for 4.5 days. We had well qualified instructors but could only
cover basics in the time allotted. I actually think the price is right
on or a bit low compared to other courses. Commercial course have
always been expensive from a single consumer's standpoint. A business
that would send someone is usually large enough to need and afford the
training. It's a expense for the company anyway. It is just that many
who would take the class are having to on their own finances which
changes the equation a bit. It is hard to be able to know how many
students will register, but a minimum of 20 would probably allow a lower
course price. SGI used to require 5 people be registered before they
would guarantee the course would not be canceled. You'd get your money
back if it was.
