[ale] Ultraedit type editor for Linux

Nathan,

I was in your situation once. I was an UltraEdit junkie. I finally found
jEdit (http://www.jedit.org). There was an adjustment period, but it was
the only thing I could find that comes close (even surpasses) UltraEdit.

Make sure you use the Plugin Manager to install the various plugins
(everything is a plugin!). It does support Save to/open from FTP, and
even remote filesystem browsing. I think you'll find it a worth
replacement.

One caveat...it's written in Java. It's one of the fastest Java gui apps
I've seen, but there's still a performance hit. Other than that, life
will be great ;-).

Good luck.

John
