You've still got a kernel compile even with a Stage 3, and the
decompression will still take a lot of time.  If you want to do this
live, do like they did on Galloping Gourmet - use two machine, get one
partially prepared ahead of time, then work up the second one in front
of the audience up to the point that the first one is at and then
magically transition to it instead of waiting for the kernel compile or
what have you.
