Somewhere in the IBM site is a series of documents dealing with getting
Linux to run on Thinkpads. The sound chips in the older Thinkpads were
some seriously messed up setups. My old 600e worked if I followed the
directions to the letter (something about restarting the sound system
from rc.local with some custom aumix flags?) and those letters included
setting IO, DMA and IRQ as the detected versions were wrong. I believe
that the sound chip was hanging from an ISA bus.
