[ale] Fedora and RHN?

Based on the current thread's info, I don't see why you have to stick
with any "corporatized" Linux distro. I was talking with Geoffrey and a
KSU student Matthew Macumber. Geoffrey and I were talking about
upgrading from SUSE 8.2 to 9.0 since we can. ;-) There was some app, I
think Mozilla, that I mentioned had a new cool feature, a spell checker,
I think. So we were talking about having to upgrade the 9.0's mozilla
to that newest version and asking Matthew what version he was using, he
said "I use Gentoo so I am already up to date." So, that has motivated
me to really try Gentoo 1.4 which is installing on my laptop. I'll pass
on my experience at some point.

I am rambling a little but my point is that why deal with RH if you can
have a more seamless upgrade path via a ports based distro with extras
added such as special kernels? After reading the posts, if the prices
are what y'all are saying they are for 64bit RH kernel then there is no
way people will be happy with that. I can just hear people saying "who
cares what is stable or secure if it costs a fortune?"

I like the RHN and how it is easy to upgrade/patch stuff. This new Dell
workstation in my office has been my first experience with modern RH
distros. I can see how someone would get used to clicking on the little
cute flashing icon, let RHN apply the patch, and going on with work.

PS. Eventually, I might try FreeBSD as well, but I like Linux.
