[ale] APC UPS at Sams :P (1100VA for $118)

The APC SmartUPS has a "smartslot" or two depending on the size of the
UPS. You can add a module for measurement of stuff like a
temperature/humidity sensor, plus there are contacts that will sense a
circuit being closed or open. The contact state changing can trigger a
script to run when using APC's PowerChute Plus. So, you would need a
smoke or heat sensor that would close or open a circuit when it's state
changed so the UPS could sense the change. Basically, what I remember
is that the smartslot device would look for a voltage change or a switch
to close so a voltage would be present and then it would trigger a
script or page. Call APC and ask them what they recommend. I used to
get emails when the temperature and humidity changed to values outside
of the parameters I had specified. PowerChute Plus stopped working
properly on my latest IRIX and so I switched to Tripplite's software to
run the APC UPSes. You'd need to use APC software for the smartslot
devices to be supported.
