[ale] Self destructing DVD's (OT)

My take on this:

I agree with the whole DivX thing (fiasco). Although I was tempted to hop on
the bandwagon (I just wanted another remote control ;-) ), I didn't. It was
just cheaper (and smarter) to spend the extra one or two bucks to get a DVD that
I could watch over, and over, and over (if I wanted to). My wife and I
generally rent one movie on Friday nights. We used to rent 2 or 3 (we had all
weekend to watch them), but kept getting tied up with other stuff, and never got
to watch them, and still got hit with late fees. So, now we just get one (and
it's generally late). If the self-destructing DVD's were slightly more
expensive than a regular DVD rental (but less than the late fees would be), I
think it could be huge. It could also allow the movie rental places
(blockbuster, hollywood, etc.) to compete with Netflix. Again, just my thoughts
on the matter.
