[ale] DSL modem problem

I posted a about a month ago about the Earthlink Home Portal DSL 
modem/router/firewall.  I was wondering if anyone has started using one 
since then and has a Linux machine behind it?  Have you had success in 
using a Linux based browser to connect to the modems internal web 
browser?  And, finally, have you had any success in configuring the 
internal firewall on the modem?

I am going to be working on this today and will check email later 
today.  The modem is at a researcher's home so I'll be remote for the 
day.  I must first just get Ethernet working, which currently isn't.  I 
can't even ping the modem internal interface from the Linux box.  Then 
I'll see about the higher layers.  Thanks,
