I created an new ext3 partition.  I copied a handful of files there.  I 
removed the files.  Unmounted the partition. I converted the ext3 
partition to ext2.  I remounted the partition.  I attempted to use the 
ext2undel tool to recover the missing files.  It found no files. :(

You might be able to convert an ext3 partition to ext2, but that doesn't 
mean you'll be able to recover lost files.

the next test would be to create files on an ext3 partition, convert it 
to ext2, remove the files and then try to recover them.  I would hope 
this would be successful.
