So you've got most of the KDE libs loaded already, but only some of the libs 
(ie, standard graphics libs and X libs) that Gnome uses. If their 
performance were the same, you'd expect KDE to start more quickly than 
Gnome....

I dunno if that supports it, but if you have a prelink binary on the system,
you could try:

# prelink -mavR

(note: prelink is stable now w/ current glibc, but I don't know if SuSE's
current enough or not to use it reliably. If it breaks you get to keep the
pieces...)

After that finishes churning and you bounce the box, most load times should
be noticeably quicker.  You'll also have slightly reduced memory footprints.
