[ale] X and desktop redraws

Sounds like it might be that dri may not be loaded.  Check your x config 
file for:

Section "Module"
.
.
Load "dri"
.
.
EndSection

and

Section "DRI"
	Mode 0666
EndSection

That would be for Xfree 4.2, but there's something similar for Xfree 3 I 
believe.

You can also check the output of /var/log/XFree86.0.log.  It should tell 
you if dri is loaded properly.


It could be caused by a poor driver too though.
