[ale] BlueCurve cure?

This is an interesting point for debate:

Do you really need to upgrade?  My thought is that unless you have a 
security problem inherent with some package or need some special new 
functionality, why upgrade it?  It may be that many could stay with the 
last update for Redhat 7.2 for a long time.  Being behind a firewall, 
not needing to upgrade the kernel or libraries, patching by hand what 
might absolutely have to be patched could leave you at Redhat 7.2 for a 
long time, correct?

The reason I am posting this is I was looking at a project where the 
distro in use was Redhat 5.1.  It was a steam turbine, engine or boiler 
testbed, I think.  They had a bunch of custom software built on top of 
the old RedHat and just kept it running along.  I am sure they had 
secured access somehow and limited what daemons/ports were available.
