Well, not to be argumentative. I strongly suggest you try "YaST." It is easier 
to use than apt-get. How easy? I don't use the keyboard at all !! (Synaptic 
is a YAST-like front-end for RedHat's apt-get but the number of packages are 
limited when it comes to 8.0).

I just found "Yast2" the holy grail of SUSE upgrades. It has more software 
than I have ever seen. It has a LOT (like RedHat).

YES. I was on a "mission" to get Gentoo, and realized that without an 
installer,  it makes a better "learning experience" than a "I need it right 
now to do some work" OS. I did find the speed and stability that I was 
searching for in SUSE.
