I left out one important part.

I would gladly go through the training to get a chance to go up on the
next shuttle. I would be ecstatic to sign on the line acknowledging that
I understand the risks. 
 
My brother in law is a candidate for mission specialist. I am 3 shades
of envy green! He's not through the entire process to training, but he
made it to the second short list.
