That may be the key.  This card worked poorly with my Linksys router. 
It refused to work with my Proxima AP.  So maybe it works really well
with the SMC Barracuda ?

The linux drivers did not work with RH9.  I had to modify them to
get them to work with the 2.4.20 kernel.
