I used to be able to do that.  Since upgrading to mandrake 9.2 my Umax Astra 
610S won't work.  Linux keeps claiming there are parity errors, then it does 
something to the scanner that makes it hang with flashing lights.   I've been 
unable to get it to work at all, now.
