Don't do that unless you have to.  The ports on a switch generally talk
to each other through the switch much faster than they can to another
switch.  Otherwise, depending on just how your rig is supposed to
operate, it may work to have a left and right "hemisphere" that both
uplink to a gigabit switch along with your home node, file server,
database server, etc.
