Interesting.  And thanks for the tip.
Upon checking I saw that the default had been unchanged and still
directed the system to "restore previous session," which it has
*yet* to do! Every time I log out I come back with a blank session --
that is, none of the applications running when I logged out are
up and running when I return. I have to manually restart them all.

I have changed the setting to "Restore Manually Saved Session." I 
am curious to see what will happen now.
