Of the lower priced LCDs the only ones that come close to specs that I 
like are the NECs.  The 1760NX has the thin bezel around the screen so 
two of them side by side would have an almost invisible division between 
them.  However, if you are a picky person about visuals then the LCD 
market is priced only for those who want low resolution for the screen 
size.  For example, the NEC I am talking about is a 17" and will go to 
1280x1200 at 75Hz.  Some people would love that and the price of $479.  
However, the same model/version in a 19" for $730 from Dell goes to the 
exact same max resolution and refresh.  The screen update time versus 
refresh has become an issue for gamers.  It seems that the 75Hz is the 
vertical refresh rate however the actual pixel signal drop time due to 
the LCD TFT technology is around 25 milliseconds.  This seems to have 
adverse affects for fast moving games.  The BenQ brand of LCD address 
this issue with LCD models having a update time of 16ms.  I haven't 
visually seen these monitors compared with my own eyes so really can't 
comment on that property of LCD monitors.  I do know that just going to 
MicroCenter and walking around comparing really shows the difference in 
the background blackness or contrast ratio.  Also, the grainy versus 
smooth appearance is pretty dramatic too.  Out of all the LCDs that were 
at MicroCenter, the price performance of the NEC 1760NX really stood 
out.  I would want a 21" LCD with 450 or 500 to 1 contrast ratio, 
1600x1200 or higher resolution, practically no bezel so side by side is 
dramatic, and the widest viewing angle possible.  I think right now that 
would cost well over $1500 so I'll stick with decent CRTs.
