[ale] [OT] Gigabyte 6VTXE MB and Celeron 1.2Ghz won't play :-(

It sounds like the M/B but...

Have you checked the power supply?  The fans powering up would indicated that the P/S is at least partially working but some voltages could be right and others wrong.  The ATX power supply pin-out is on the web and you can use a paper clip (I've done this, it doesn't hurt anything) to jumper the on pin low and then check voltages with a multimeter.  Power Supplies these days are sort of ignored as an important component and as such the quality is rather unknown.  It can't hurt to check the voltages because a bad P/S has a good chance of ruining other components (like that MB that doesn't work).
