else.

since you installed with rpm, you should have a /etc/init.d/mysqld file
that will start the daemon. As root:
/etc/init.d/mysqld start

Add it to your startup process with 
chkconfig --level 2345 mysqld on

and all the required links will magically appear in
/etc/rc.d/rc[2345].d/
