[ale] ddclient

this any better?  sorry about that.  to answer the question about it finding
my address, i don't know.  i'm all new to this and thought it would be
automatic like i remember the windows dns2go client being.  so if i want it
to pull the ip from my NIC that the DSL is on, just uncomment out the
following line?

#use=if,                     if=eth0		# via interfaces

also, if the card is eth1 (not sure off-hand), do i need to change if=eth0
to if=eth1?

How about stripping the comments from that file and resending it.  There is
some bad wrap around from your mailer, and I can't tell if that is causing
your problem or not.

Also, how are you expecting ddclient to find you addr?

You should usually have one of these three lines uncommented
#use=ip,                     ip=127.0.0.1	# via static IP's
#use=if,                     if=eth0		# via interfaces
#use=web
