Never assume anything. :)  That was it dude.  I had tried to muck around 
with getting my dual head setup working again, and had left xinerama 
activated.  dri is disabled with xinerama. Once I removed it, I'm back 
to my original speed.  Thanks for the memory jogger!

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
