Here finally is the answer to my problem running the rec command after my
upgrade to SuSE 8.  It now works like a champ.  I looked all over the SuSE
site and found the email list that dealt with multimedia.  I had an answer
the next day.

  Hope I can help a little here. Is the card a sblive? If it is, there's two
suse rpm's for alsa on suse's site that you need to download and install.
Read the instructions for the installation of them too...the 'driver' rpm
needs the --force' option when installing it. Go here:
