Apparently a little education is  necessary here. :)  Actually, most of 
  the software you run on Linux is gnu software, and hurd is gnu 
software, so although I've no  experience with hurd, I'd bet that the 
gnu software packages will run on it.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
