Let's see: I was making $60 a week, buying a new Impala (327, a/c)
and putting the rest (!) of my earnings into my college fund.

Once in a while we would have lunch at a really nice restaurant, which
might cost as much as $1.50. Under a dollar was the usual price at
'regular' restaurants (Mary-Mac's)

About this same time, I moved into a brand-new apartment a few blocks
from the beach in Santa Barbara. Rent was $110, phone $5, gas $5 or $6.
Gasoline was 19 cents a gallon, and it was pumped by college girls
in bikinis. (No joke)

Tell me I am better off today.

Irv
