I concur.  I'd rather see a radio button.

However, I think that the deselect is a safety measure - you can't accidentally 
touch the screen in the wrong box and change your vote.  And given our election 
boards propensity for making confusing ballots, this may be a good thing.

The screens were too slow.  I expect a voting system to have everything ready for
the voter to start as soon as the card is inserted.
